Alex: Natural, earthy colours create a somewhat homely environment at the new venture from the Navarra Group right next door to Conco D’Oro (home to many a wog wedding back in mine and team FFS childhood days) known as Little General Espresso in Riverwood.
The cafe is unlike anything else in the immediate area and offers up some relatively good options including good coffee, cakes, and breakfast/lunch menu at reasonable prices.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a slight obsession with the light fixtures!
Vanessa and Bianca went with the Raw Pressed Juice options. The Detox and the Just OJ were the winners of the bunch with unanimous murmurings of “refreshing” and “a lighter option” being thrown around.
Burger B ordered a Linseed Bagel with frittata and bacon. She decided to add bocconcini to the bagel which she mentioned it needed, as the bagel was a touch dry.
I decided on the special of the day which was a Coca Cola soaked Brisket Sandwich with some foliage as Bianc so likes to call it on her burgers. When it first arrived at the table I was immediately concerned as I could tell the bread had not been warmed up or toasted, making it slightly tough and hard to eat. If it had been warm I think it would have elevated this dish. As I picked up the burger the immediate consensus was the concerning amount of leakage coming from the brisket making it near impossible to eat with my hands, alas a knife and fork were used. The actual flavour from the brisket though was superb. Moreish and soft, the cola and brisket was a perfect combination that the Chef had managed to nail so kudos to you guys!
Vanessa went with a dish that now seems to become rather controversial as a breakfast order, but one that I will happily order again and again. Much to Bianc’s disgust. Smashed avocado on sourdough toast Feta and avocado are like a heavenly match that just ooze goodness. The balsamic vinaigrette drizzled over the top was also a welcome touch. Surprisingly one of the better smashed avo’s that I’ve tried. I’m also curious…What are your thoughts on ordering smashed avo on toast at cafe’s? Will you, or do you think it’s a waste of money when it’s something so easily prepared at home?
Little General Espresso is definitely delivering the goods around the area and they seem to pull quite a bit of business with the locals.
If you’re in and around the area, I definitely recommend giving it a try. They’re currently awaiting installation of a kitchen, so it’s a lot of prepared meals at the mo but that is set to change.
Also, for the next few days if you purchase a coffee at Little General Espresso you will get a free Starlight Cupcake and $1 from every coffee will be donated to help seriously ill children across Australia which is a great idea and one that team FFS support whole heartedly 🙂

Haha we were just talking about ordering smashed avocado on toast on the weekend. I must admit that I don’t tend to order it until it has an interesting combo or roasted sweetcorn. I think I must love corn 😀
