Langham Melbourne – Southbank

Alex: There’s no denying that worldwide, The Langham is known as an iconic symbol of opulence and luxury.

In early October, Team FFS took a trip to Melbourne to continue to eat our way through the city (and doing a pretty damn good job at that) but a decision that always ends up leading to a disagreement with Princess Bianca is our accommodation.

Feeling the need to spoil myself before the tumultuous task of completing my major project upon my return to Sydney (EXHIBITING TONIGHT UNTIL THURSDAY at Ambush Gallery, Central Park) we decided on a 3 day stint at The Langham located in South-bank.

THE ROOM

An early flight into Melbourne town left us eager to enter our Club Grand River Room located on the 22nd floor. Quite a substantial room at that! As you enter you walk down a small hallway with a large gold frame mirror hanging on the right hand side just above the well equipped bar area. The king bed was plush and comfortable with ample space to make sure I was well beyond arm’s reach of Bianc! _mg_8574

Walking towards the large almost floor-ceiling windows we were greeted with unparalleled views of Melbourne City and the Yarra river. The colour is off-putting yet there’s a charm about it that just keeps me staring at both the river and surroundings every time I visit. Being named the world’s most liveable city is something that I definitely do not doubt and I tell everyone that I would move to Melbourne in a heartbeat…especially if this was my view everyday.

The bathroom was completely decked out in dark marble tiles with antique silver handles. It was the perfect place for a quick photo op and I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t in there for a good 20 minutes with my phone….Just check my instagram bahahaha.

The living area was more than generous with two sofas, and a comfortable desk area in order to cram in some last minute work… or to use to stare at the view and take some more photos.

Throw in a quick photo-shoot and we were ready to go! _mg_8678

HIGH TEA

It’s quite often heard through word of mouth that The Langham offers one of the best High Tea experiences in Australia. We had the opportunity to meet with the lovely Tara Bishop, public relations manager of The Langham Melbourne who sat with us during the high tea experience, offering an insight into the dedication and care that goes into ensuring a memorable high tea experience. The Langham is currently doing An Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood that will run until March 2017.

We all know that the hotel has been around for a while, but there’s quite a rich history that The Langham has, dating back to 1865 when the original hotel in London opened it’s doors. It’s evident that there is a long trying process with a great attention to detail across the Afternoon Tea as a whole. Everything is made in house and there is a great effort in staying relevant by keeping with current trends.

Wanting to keep with Australian champagne, we went with Chandon with their own vineyard in the Yarra Valley. (Otherwise they have Perrier Jouet Champagne available).

The food on offer was your standard high tea options but with a real push on the quality and dedication of the product.

The scones were warm and airy in the middle, making them very easy to eat. Sometimes I find scones to be quite dry but these were great! Add a generous lather of jam and cream and they were a real treat.

The desserts were also a stand out. The blue macaron left our tongues blue (quite a cute little novelty) and the choux pastry and decadent chocolate dome were all great additions to the high tea.

The afternoon tea can also be had in the exclusive club lounge.

CLUB LOUNGE

Exclusive to Melbourne’s Langham is the Club Lounge. A private area designated to club members located on the 24th floor of the hotel. The lounge offers an amazing deluxe continental breakfast with a selection of hot and cold dishes – your usual breakfast finds including, eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles etc.

And after you’ve visited Melbourne and perhaps before you’re planning on going out for dinner you can come back to the Club Lounge from 5.30-8pm and have evening drinks. Everything is complimentary including, wine, top of the range spirits, scotch, champagne and so on as well as canapés.

So it’s safe to say that if you have the ability to splurge for a few days then The Langham should definitely be at the top of your list.

The service is near faultless, the food on offer is top quality and it’s centrally located to all the great parts of Melbourne.

Until next time!

Alex

For Food’s Sake independently paid for our stay but were given complimentary access to The Club Lounge. A big thank you to Tara for organising our stay and looking after us at The Langham Melbourne.
