The Fountain, Potts Point

[invite] Bianca: There’s a lot to like about Pott’s Point new resident The Fountain. Evoking a Parisian vibe, I could easily see this becoming the place to be seen or to clock a few hours’ people watching in the warmer months. Jocyeicle and I visited on a chilly windy arvo and sitting outside wasn’t exactly ‘pleasant’. But we’ll do anything for the photos! The interior is inviting, with a striking tile pattern a main focal point. The menu is comprehensive and there’s likely to be something for everyone.

The Sweet Corn Fritters – w/avocado, salsa, coriander, poached egg $17 is up there for one of the better versions going around Sydney at the moment. I like mine super crispy and these were near perfect. Plump, sweet corn kernels, offset by the creamy avo. The poached egg padding out the meal, I appreciated the tomato/Spanish onion salsa, especially alongside the foliage on the base of the dish.

Make sure you get the Reuben Sandwich – w/pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, Russian sauce w/fries $19. Each bite was a pleasure, I loathe Swiss cheese but here, everything just works so cohesively. The large dill pickles were really what set this apart, adding a sharp sourness to each bite. A succinct ratio of ingredients.

And probably the soon to be most Instagrammed dish in Sydney. The Crème Brulee French Toast –w/ caramelised banana, toffee, berries & clotted cream $18. Looks wise, this is the money dish. There’s a fair bit to like here. Despite our initial thoughts the brioche was tasty and soaked through. The toffee adding a nuttiness, the figs were too jarring for my palate. Fresh berries with sweets are always a winning combo but the clotted cream needs to be re-thought, a lighter whipped mascarpone would work much better as it was WAY too heavy!

Definitely, one to file away if you’re in Potts Point or The Cross. There’s definitely enough variety in the menu to warrant a second visit, or third…
