A Little More Cafe, Randwick. ‘The Pancake Files’.

[invite] Bianca: Expanding the hunt for the ultimate Sydney pancakes further east. A Little More Cafe opened late last year on Randwick’s busy Belmore Road. It’s 6:30am – 3:30pm operation is geared towards a busy breakfast/ brunch/ lunch rush with a reasonably sized menu offering the classic cafe staples.

Little bit more 1-1

Pre Centennial Park bike ride with gal pal Felicitations, we stopped in for some mid-morning fuel. The Green Machine Juice $7.50 providing some much-needed fibre, I was definitely more taken with the Mango & Pineapple juice $7.50, which was slightly more slushee-like.

Little bit more 2-1

Never one to turn down a B&E roll, Felicitations zeroed in on the Smoked Streaky Bacon -w/fried egg, cheddar, milk bun & tomato ketchup $10. Reasonably priced and a generous serve. Big tick for the crispy bacon, sweet tomato sauce and the pliable fluffy milk bun.

Little bit more 6-1

After my go-to pancakes, I tend to always throw in some form of fritter to counter-act the sweetness. The Sweet Potato & Corn Fritters -w/ mojo picon, fried egg & manchego cheese $19. These had more of a ‘batter’ like consistency (which I didn’t mind), I would have preferred them crispier on the outside but a minor quibble.  We enjoyed the sweetness of the corn kernels and the spicy kick from the mojo picon. Tied together by the runny yolk and shavings of manchego.

Little bit more 4-1

And finally, what I was really here for. The Buckwheat Hotcake -w/ whipped sweet labneh, hazelnuts, chocolate sauce & seasonal fruits $18. There was a lot to get excited about here but ultimately this fell a little flat. The texture of the pancake was on the dense side. The flavour was pleasant and I enjoyed the fresh cherries, adding a hint of sourness. I could bathe in chocolate I love it that much and whilst you could tell this was some insanely good quality dark chocolate, it’s use here was a little overpowering and overwhelming.

Little bit more 7-1

We did ask for one of the freshly baked in-house Muffins but the waitress on the day didn’t take written orders and forgot, we were too full at that point to mention it but other than that, service was very friendly and speedy.
