Bianca: So I’m currently obsessed with dan dan noodles and have been on the hunt for some of the best in Sydney. I don’t know how far I’ll get with this search because I can’t go beyond the amaze Dan Dan at 257 Home Kitchen. 257 Home Kitchen specialises in Shanghainese cuisine, the Sheng jian bao are repeat favourites. I cannot express just how much I love this restaurant! Definitely, one of the more modern restaurants on the Eastwood strip, competing with the recently refurbed Taste of Shanghai. I’ve probably visited 6 times in the space of 2 months.
The Home Kitchen Green Onion Pancake $9.80 is wonderfully crisp with a slight sweetness from the shallots. Dip in the vinegar for a twist.
Yep, so the current love of my life. Home Kitchen Dan Dan Noodle $12.80. A popular Sichuan street food, with fiery chilli oil, browned ground pork mince, thin egg noodles and Chinese sesame paste. It’s a hearty serve and a generous portion for the price. This along with a few dumplings and you’ll be struggling to breathe but it’ll be worth it.
The Pan Fried Pork Buns (Sheng jian bao) $12.80 are absolute must orders! The dough soft and unobtrusive, the perfect thickness. The pork well seasoned and cooked, soft and juicy. It’s really all about the combination of the soup and the texture of the crispy base.
Salt & Pepper King Prawns $26.80 are always a crowd pleaser, plump juicy prawns with a crispy outer coating.
With a potent pepper sauce, the Stir Fried Noodle with Beef & Black Pepper $13.80 is a winning combo. I quite like the dry style noodle, not overly saucy. The thin beef strips, succulent.
Stir Fried Beef & Mushroom with Black Pepper $22.80 having a similar flavour profile, minus the noodles.
We weren’t really fans of the Pork Fried Rice. Having no real distinct flavour (yes we know it’s the vehicle for the rest of the food….) but we’ve had much better in Syd.
Don’t scoff your nose, Stir-fried Spinach with Garlic $16.80 was delicious!
Fiery in every sense of the word, Kung Pao Chicken $20.80 will leave you a little red-faced. Soft tender chicken pieces, alongside the roasted peanuts.
Run, don’t walk!!

That all looks so good! But the spinach for $16.80 looks expensive!
OMG I am such a fiend for noodles. Thick or thin-any kind! But these look awesome. I can see why you went back 6 times!
